Terms of Use
The short version
Punctum is a speed-reading app. Your books and your reading progress stay on your device, and we do not see them. A free reading allowance lets you try the app; the Book Pack is a one-off purchase and Unlimited is a yearly subscription, both sold and billed by Apple or Google. This page explains what you may do with the app, what you pay for, and the rules that apply. If you use the iOS app from the App Store, Apple's standard licence also applies, and we link it below.
Who we are
Punctum is operated by Eren Kaya, a sole trader (micro-entreprise) based in France. “We” and “us” in these terms mean that business. You can reach us at support@punctumreader.com. These terms are a contract between you and us for the use of the Punctum app. No account is created: the app is installed on your device and works without registration.
Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-commercial, non-transferable and non-exclusive licence to install and use Punctum on devices you own or control, for your own reading. This licence is for you alone. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app; you may not reverse-engineer, decompile or otherwise try to extract its source code, except where the law expressly allows it; and you may not remove or alter any proprietary notices. Anything not expressly granted here remains with us or our licensors.
Your content
You keep all rights to the text you import. When you add a TXT, PDF or EPUB file, or paste text, that content is processed only on your device and is never uploaded to us. Because we never receive your files, we cannot see, review or remove them, and we are not responsible for their content. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to import and read the material you add, including any copyright or licence that applies to it.
Free reading allowance, Book Pack and Unlimited
Punctum's free tier gives every reader a lifetime allowance of roughly 100 pages of reading, with no card required and no trial countdown. The allowance is used up gradually as you read. Re-reading a passage and jumping forward do not consume it, and books you have already started stay open. The Book Pack is a one-off purchase, not a subscription. It is yours indefinitely and adds roughly 10 books (about 4,000 pages) of reading allowance. It travels to a new device through “restore purchases” in your store account. Unlimited is a yearly subscription that renews automatically. It renews at the end of each period unless you cancel it through your store account at least 24 hours before the period ends. You cancel and manage it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. The price is shown in the store.
Payments, renewals and refunds
All payments are processed entirely by Apple or Google under their own terms. We never see your payment card. RevenueCat keeps the record of your purchase, so the app knows what you own and can restore it. Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, not by us; refund requests go to Apple or Google. If you uninstall the app, the library and progress stored on that device are deleted, but paid entitlements can be restored through your store account.
Apple App Store users
If you downloaded Punctum from the Apple App Store, Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement also applies to your use of the app. You can read it at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Health and reading-speed note
Punctum is a reading tool, not a medical or health product, and nothing in the app is medical advice. Speed reading can reduce comprehension, and pushing your speed too high may make you miss meaning. Take breaks, and if you experience eye strain, headaches or discomfort, stop and rest. If you have a vision or reading difficulty, speak to a qualified professional.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Punctum is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we make no warranties that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of content or progress. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of your country of residence, including EU and French consumer protection law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the app or the law changes. The date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be published on this page before they take effect, and your continued use of the app after that means you accept the new terms. If you do not agree, you may stop using the app.
Governing law
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and nothing here takes those away. If you have a complaint, please contact us first at support@punctumreader.com and we will try to resolve it with you.
